At-Home Newborn Photos: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Session

Bringing home a new baby is one of the most exciting (and exhausting!) times of your life. The last thing most new parents feel like doing is packing the nappy bag, getting everyone dressed, and hoping the baby sleeps long enough to make it to a photography studio.

That’s exactly why I created Australia’s first purpose-built mobile newborn photography studio.

If you’re looking for at-home newborn photos, there’s a good chance you’ve imagined a photographer setting up lights and backdrops in your lounge room. While some photographers work that way, my sessions are a little different.

Instead of taking over your home, I bring an entire professional photography studio to you.

What Are At-Home Newborn Photos?

At-home newborn photos simply mean your newborn photography session takes place at your home address, rather than you travelling to a studio.

The difference with my sessions is that the photographs aren’t taken inside your house.

My custom-built mobile studio parks outside your home and contains everything you’d expect from a premium photography studio, including professional lighting, heating, props, wraps, backdrops, comfortable seating, a television, Wi-Fi and even a coffee machine.

You walk just a few steps from your front door into a calm, climate-controlled studio designed specifically for newborn photography.

For most parents, it’s the best of both worlds.

Why Parents Love At-Home Newborn Photos

Having a newborn is unpredictable.

Babies need feeding.
Nappies need changing.
Someone always forgets something.

Travelling with a brand-new baby can feel like a military operation!

With an at-home newborn photoshoot, you stay in the comfort of your own home while still enjoying the experience of a professional studio session.

There is:

  • No long drive with a newborn.
  • No worrying about being late.
  • No loading the car with everything your baby might need.
  • No cleaning your house before the photographer arrives.
  • No moving furniture or finding good natural light.

Instead, I bring everything to you.

Are The Photos Taken Inside My Home?

This is probably the question I’m asked most often.

No.

The photographs are taken inside my purpose-built mobile studio, which parks outside your home.

That means you still receive beautiful professional newborn portraits with carefully controlled lighting and styling, without your lounge room becoming a photography studio for the day.

The only consideration is my Studio is 8m in length. So ideally parking on a fairly flat driveway or on the kerbside is required. My Studio is off grid and does not require plugging into mains unless it is an extremely hot day. My lighting and aircon runs off solar panels and batteries.

Many parents tell me this is one of the biggest reasons they book.

Is The Mobile Studio Safe For Newborns?

Absolutely.

Every part of the studio has been designed with newborn safety and comfort in mind.

The studio is climate controlled to keep your baby warm and comfortable, and all posing is completed using safe newborn photography techniques.

With more than 16 years photographing newborns and thousands of babies safely posed over that time, your baby’s wellbeing will always come before getting a particular photograph.

What Should We Bring?

Not much!

One of the biggest advantages of the mobile studio is that almost everything is already waiting for you.

I provide:

  • Wraps
  • Blankets
  • Headbands
  • Bonnets
  • Props
  • Professional lighting
  • Comfortable seating
  • Heating and cooling

All you really need is your baby, some nappies, bottles if you’re bottle feeding, and anything you’d normally bring for a short outing.

Can Siblings And Parents Be Included?

Absolutely.

One of my favourite parts of every session is capturing your family’s first memories together.

Sibling photographs, parent photographs and family portraits are all included, creating a gallery that tells the beginning of your family’s story.

When Should I Book?

The best time to book your newborn session is during your pregnancy ideally in your first or second trimester.

Your due date is reserved in my diary, and once your baby arrives we’ll choose the best day for your session, usually within the first 7–14 days.

That way you don’t need to worry about finding a photographer once you’re already sleep deprived.

Areas I Service

My mobile newborn photography studio travels throughout:

  • Sydney
  • Central Coast
  • Newcastle

If you’re a little further away, feel free to get in touch. I’m often able to travel further when I have multiple families booked in the same area.

Is An At-Home Newborn Photoshoot Right For You?

If you’d love beautiful newborn portraits but can’t imagine packing the car and travelling with a tiny baby, an at-home newborn photoshoot might be exactly what you’re looking for.

You still receive the quality, experience and artwork of a professional photography studio without the stress of leaving home.

For many families, it’s the easiest, most relaxed way to capture those precious first memories
